Connie Sparks
Constance Elaine Vandiver August 29, 1948 – May 2, 2026
On May 2, 2026, after three weeks in the ICU, Connie said she wanted to go outside. Her wish was granted, and she passed peacefully in the sunshine, surrounded by family.
Connie was born in Denver on August 29, 1948, to Leona and Milton “Van” Vandiver. After the birth of her cherished sister, Charlotte, the family moved to Littleton, where Connie grew up and built lifelong friendships that endured from first grade through high school. To those friends — and to so many others whose lives she touched — Connie leaves an empty space filled with grace, love, and treasured memories.
After high school, Connie attended Colorado State University, where she met John Netzer. They married and shared 13 years together while raising their family. Later, at age 40, Connie returned to school to earn her degree in Psychology. She went on to build a meaningful career in Biofeedback Therapy, helping others with compassion and care.
In 1990, Connie married Jim Sparks, the love of her life. They met while playing golf, a pastime they continued to enjoy together for many years. They honeymooned in Hawaii and shared a life filled with travel, card games, occasional trips to Black Hawk, creative projects, and devotion to their beloved dog, Jackson. In later years, as their health declined, Connie and Jim became remarkable partners in caregiving, supporting one another while continuing to enjoy an active life together at Heather Gardens.
Above all else, Connie treasured her family. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Charlotte Strauss; her children: Matt Netzer; Krissy Netzer Howard (Colin); and Zach Netzer (Amanda), along with Amanda’s son, Ben; her stepchildren: Tammy Sparks Vigil (James) and Jeff Sparks (Jolene); her grandchildren: Darian City, Bryce Sparks, Kendall Howard, and Haley Howard; and her great-granddaughter, Hazel City.
Through many health challenges over the years, Connie often said, “I couldn’t have made it without my kids.”
Connie touched the hearts of everyone who knew her with her warmth, strength, and grace. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, at 1:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014.
