Claudia Elaine Humbargar, age 68, died peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of December 17, 2025, in Denver, Colorado.
Claudia was born on July 12, 1957, in Elma, Iowa, the oldest of five siblings. Raised on a farm, she developed a lifelong love of animals, gardening, and the simple beauty of nature. She graduated from Crestwood High School in Cresco, Iowa, in 1975, and went on to attend Allen Hospital School of Nursing in Waterloo, Iowa. After completing her three-year nursing degree, Claudia moved to Denver, Colorado, where she fulfilled a lifelong dream by beginning her nursing career at Children’s Hospital.
It was in Denver that Claudia met the love of her life, Stan Humbargar. The two met while playing co-ed softball and were married in 1981. Together, they shared a love of travel and adventure, visiting destinations including Rome, Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Costa Rica, and many warm, sunny Caribbean beaches. Still, nothing brought Claudia more joy than quiet summer days spent relaxing at the neighborhood pool.
Claudia devoted much of her life to caring for others—both professionally and at home. She worked as a nurse in the medical field for more than 25 years, and her compassion extended naturally into her role as a devoted mother. Raising Cody and Blair was one of her greatest joys, and she poured her heart into creating a loving, faith-filled home, always present for school activities, sports, and the everyday moments that mattered most.
After retiring from full-time nursing, Claudia continued to serve others in meaningful ways. She was a devoted CBS (Community Bible Study) Core Leader, sharing God’s Word and mentoring others for many years. Her unwavering faith in the Lord guided her life and led her to be a constant volunteer and loving presence within her church community.
Claudia is survived by her husband of 44 years, Stan Humbargar; her son, Cody (m. Sarah) Humbargar; her daughter, Blair (m. Colten) Leier; and her four beloved grandchildren, Hayley, Clark, Leon, and Charlotte, who were the light of her life. She is also survived by her parents, Emil and Charlotte Platte; her siblings, Ed (m. Shirley) Platte, Tom Platte, Nancy (m. Dean) Morris, and Joan (m. Scott) Rauch; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Memorial service will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2 pm. Refreshments will be served for all in the church fellowship hall following the service.
