Claud Mcdowell

October 19, 1961 — May 2, 2023

Colorado

Claud E. McDowell (61), surrounded by family, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 2nd, 2023 at Presbyterian St Luke’s Hospital in Denver.  The son of Larry and Carmen McDowell, Claud is survived by his Father (Larry), two sisters (Ale’ and Donna) and his younger brother (Larry “Mac”).  He also leaves behind a legacy of friendship with those he grew up with.  His “other brothers” he has known since elementary, Jr High and High School.

Recently retired, Claud worked for GE Healthcare as a Field Service Engineer for 25+ years.  One would often hear him refer to his “patients” regarding his profession.  Although he wasn’t a doctor, Claud felt just as responsible for the people utilizing the imaging equipment he installed and serviced as the doctor who prescribed the scan.  Always going the extra mile, you would find him helping the team members he worked beside and working late hours to get the job done! These were not only his coworkers but Claud’s friends as well and he cared for and cherished them like brothers.  His fellow engineers always had a special place in Claud’s heart.

Claud was an avid music lover and a member of many bands playing bass or guitar when he was younger.   As that phase of life drew to a close, you would find Claud and many of his friends/family writing and recording music in his basement.  For many years Claud’s basement was the central hub to gather and create.   Claud always had music going in his house and was always up for a live concert.  Just tell him when, where and who and he was ready to go.

A lover of the outdoors, Claud enjoyed being in the mountains/nature, free from the bustle of the big city.  Excursions into Canada fishing, trips to Buffalo Peaks in the fall and the get togethers at the family cabin, Claud was at his best in the wild.   A common sight was him tending a fire until the wee hours of the night.  Sometimes alone or with someone that just needed to talk.  Either way, he had time and an ear to listen.

As a 35+ year season ticket holder, Claud loved his Broncos and all of Denver sports but the Broncos were his passion.   Relishing in the 3 Superbowl wins and anguishing in the losses, Claud never lost hope for a bright new winning season.

Special mention goes to all of his nieces and nephews: John, Kiarra, Peter, Joe, Katie, Kathleen, Morgan, Larry, Rylee, McKenna, Peyton and his newest nieces Sarah, Abby and Alli for whom he was starting to love and know.  Whether it was showing up for a sporting event, recital or just to throw the ball around, Uncle “Claudie” could always be depended upon.  His pride in his nieces and nephews was 2nd to none; they were loved and treated as if they were his own.

Family, friends and his patients were the most important thing in Claud’s life. He always had time for a phone call, a quick meet up and a dollar to spare and he will be missed by many.   A celebration of his life will be held at Horan and McConaty in Centennial on June 2nd at 11:00am with a reception to follow.
