Christine “Chris” Larson, age 82, passed away in Centennial, Colorado on March 26, 2024 after battling a number of chronic illnesses. Chris was born on April 6, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, to Stephen and Lucille Slomka. After graduating from Aquinas High School in Chicago, she went on to work as a gift-wrapper at Joseph Salon, a fine shoe, handbag and jewelry store, followed by various clerical and administrative jobs throughout the years. One of her most prideful roles was being a stay-at-home mom until her two children were teenagers. Her interests included shopping, scrapbooking, macrame, flower-arranging, decorating for the holidays, traveling, taking scenic drives in the beautiful Colorado mountains, and watching her grandchildren participate in numerous performances and sporting events as they grew up nearby. Chris also had an insatiable love for chocolate.
In 1962, Chris married her husband Chuck and, thanks to the gift of adoption, welcomed Craig in 1969 followed by Karie in 1971. She remained in the midwest until 1981 when the family relocated to Colorful Colorado for Chuck’s job. In 1993, her beloved son Craig lost his battle with leukemia, which left quite a hole in her heart and spirit until she became a grandmother in 2000.
Chris is survived by her daughter, Karie (Rick) Watt, her grandchildren, Connor and Lindsey Watt (who lovingly called her “Nana”), her brother, Jerry (Gloria) Slomka of Chicago, her sister, Carol Murphy of Highlands Ranch and many wonderful nieces and nephews whom she adored. Her parents, her husband, Charles, her son, Craig and her sister, Delores Marsh preceded her in death.
Chris had the most beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She was very active and always on the go until a few of her chronic conditions made that difficult. Her biggest frustration was not being able to walk, shop, travel or even prepare meals as she did when she was in better health. With that in mind, donations may be made in her memory to Project Angel Heart, a local non-profit that prepares and delivers meals to chronically and terminally ill people all over Colorado.
Chris will be incredibly missed, especially by her family and granddog. A small celebration of life and family burial are being planned for late Spring of 2024.
Many thanks to friends and family, everyone at Heather Gardens #218, MorningStar at Jordan and Dignity Hospice for all the love, patience, support and assistance given to both Chris and Karie along the way.
