Christina “Chrissy” Wimmer, MD, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the age of 53, following a courageous and inspiring sixteen-year battle with breast cancer.
Chrissy was born on October 17, 1972, in Menominee Falls, Wisconsin, to Joseph L. and Adele Wimmer. In July 1975, she dubiously welcomed her younger brother, Max J. Wimmer. The family spent her early years in Milwaukee, where Chrissy was known for recklessly riding her "Big Wheel" up and down the neighborhood sidewalks.
In July 1976, the Wimmer family moved to Oklahoma City, where a young Chrissy famously mistook the local cicadas for "huge, giant bees." In December 1978, the family relocated to Midland, Texas. Chrissy attended grade school and high school in Midland, consistently earning excellent grades at every level.
She pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in May 1994 with a BA from the prestigious Plan II Honors Program. Before embarking on her medical career, Chrissy spent a year traveling and working various jobs from Alaska to Florida. She then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School. As a fourth-year medical student, she expanded her horizons by spending several months studying in China. She graduated with her Medical Doctorate in 1999, specializing in psychiatry.
Chrissy moved to Colorado to complete her internship and residency at the University of Colorado Medical School from 1999 to 2003. She completed a specialized fellowship in psychiatry in 2004 and was Chief Resident in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Chrissy was a dedicated and compassionate physician who brought deep empathy to her practice.
Above all, Chrissy was a devoted mother to her two children, Anna C. Peragine (born 2004) and Thomas J. Peragine (born 2009). Chrissy continued to build a vibrant life centered around her children, family, and passions. She was an avid skier, loved hiking in the beautiful Colorado mountains, and cherished making memories with her friends. A passionate sports fan, she remained a lifelong, diehard UT Longhorns football fan and a rabid Green Bay Packers backer.
In her final years, Chrissy met the love of her life, Fritz Reichardt. They loved each other deeply, and together they shared several incredibly happy, love-filled years.
Chrissy’s resilience, sharp intellect, adventurous spirit, and profound love for her family will be forever remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her beloved children, Annie and Thomas; her wonderful partner, Fritz Reichardt; her parents, Joseph and Adele Wimmer; her long-suffering younger brother, Max Wimmer; her sister-in-law, Amanda Wimmer; niece, Ella Wimmer and a large community of extended family, colleagues, and dear friends.
