Cheryl Ann Dabney

June 17, 1945 — December 22, 2025

Cheryl Ann Dabney, lovingly known to family and friends as Cheryl or Auntie Cheryl, was born on June 17, 1945, in Denver, Colorado, to Andrew K. Hudson and Electra (Mason) Hudson. She was the fourth of six children born to her proud parents and grew up surrounded by the love, laughter, and companionship of her siblings.

Cheryl was raised in East Denver and attended Manual High School, where she began forming lifelong roots and connections that helped shape the woman she became. She went on to build a life defined by love, generosity, and deep family connection.

Cheryl married the love of her life, Charles Dabney, and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage, as they were just weeks away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Their life together was a true testament to enduring love, commitment, and partnership. Cheryl closely aligned her beliefs with the Catholic faith in which she was raised, a foundation that remained important throughout her life. She and Charles were married at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, where she also found spiritual grounding and a sense of community.

After marrying Charles, Cheryl built a successful career in the telecommunications field as a project manager. She later took early retirement from Lucent Technologies, a decision that allowed her and Charles to travel together and fully enjoy life while creating many cherished memories. Following her retirement, Cheryl devoted herself to caring for her parents, visiting and assisting them almost daily—a role she fulfilled with deep love, patience, and devotion.

Cheryl was always the life of the party—bubbly, outgoing, and full of warmth. Her laughter could fill a room, and her presence made every gathering brighter. She was extraordinarily generous, always thinking of others before herself, and never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word. Cheryl took great pride in lovingly maintaining her prized yard, highlighted by a beautiful garden filled with flowers and potted plants that brought her joy and peace. She especially loved to “open up the patio,” welcoming friends and family into one of the most beautiful backyards in Denver, complete with flowers, fountains, and her favorite—frogs. The stunning view and her warm hospitality made every visit memorable. She was also a devoted Denver Broncos fan, and she and Charles were proud season ticket holders who rarely missed a game.

Above all, Cheryl cherished time with her great-nephew, Elijah, whom she affectionately called her “son,” and with her great-nieces, Maya and Morgan. Time spent with the youngest members of her family brought her immense joy and fulfillment.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew K. Hudson and Electra (Mason) Hudson, and her brothers, Leroy Hudson and Gerald Hudson.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Charles Dabney; her brothers Ronald Hudson and Andrew Kenneth Hudson, Jr. (Delores); her sister Becky Hudson; her nieces Jacqueline Hudson and Ronnie (Rhonda) Hudson; her nephews Eugene Hudson, Marco Hudson (Briony), Kirk Hudson, Darryl Hudson, and Derek Hudson (Chris); and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Cheryl was called home on December 22, 2025. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit, generous heart, and the way she brought people together. Her legacy lives on through the family she held so close. Cheryl will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Dear Father,

Bless all of Your children and their families. May everyone feel the light of Your presence and the comfort of Your love.

Bless those who have moved on from this earthly life and now dwell in the fullness of Your eternal light, reunited with the spirits who have gone before us. Grant us Your grace as our loved ones learn to cope with the loss of their physical presence on this earth.

We ask that You welcome our sister Cheryl into heavenly abundance. May her spirit live on, surrounding and uplifting all of her family and loved ones who cherish her.

For those who remain, Lord, grant us peace that surpasses understanding, strength for each day, and hope rooted in Your promise. Amen.
