Charles Ralph “Chuck” Smaldone was born on June 20, 1945 and died on June 7, 2024. He grew up in North Denver with his parents, Clyde Smaldone and Mildred Wackenrueter Smaldone.
Chuck attended Regis High School for his sophomore and junior years and graduated from Randall High School. He attended the University of Denver for four years concentrating on the field of gerontology.
Professionally Chuck was a men’s clothier and ran Duane’s Men Store with his business partner, Duane Rouse.
In 1976 Chuck met his life partner, Dan Henry. Chuck and Dan were together until Dan’s death in 1996.
Chuck was friends with Rod McKuen, the poet and songwriter, until Rod died in 2015.
After retiring Chuck collaborated with his brother Gene to write and publish “Smaldone the Untold Story of an American Crime Family” , the memoir of his father, Clyde Smaldone.
Chuck is survived by his four nieces, Debbie Baumann, Linda Walden, Paula Valente, and Susan Basil, and a host of family members and friends, in particular his caregiver, Polly Brown, and his lifelong friend, Mike Albi.
