Charles Elton “Charlie” Puckett, age 60, passed away February 26th, 2024, from a recent terminal cancer diagnosis in Brandon, MS.
Charlie was born in Magee, MS on June 30th, 1963, to the late Elton and Charline Harkey Puckett. He grew up in Mendenhall, attending Mendenhall Schools and after High School joining the MS Army National Guard. His trade skill was Automotive Mechanic working at several automotive repair shops with most of his career with the E.O Berry Motor Company in Magee, MS.
A fool of a character, Charlie was an entertainment in any crowd to say the least. A teller of tall tales and fictional stories…. He had a gift of embellishment. He had struggles throughout life but seemed to keep a laughingstock in life. He lived life care free and by the seat of his pants, with no real plan of action. He typically had the clothes on his back, the wind behind him and the horizon of unknown in front of him.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Charline Puckett; grandparents, Charlie and Maude Lee Burnham Puckett and Charlie and Victoria Gray Garner Harkey; his brothers, Travis Puckett and Billy Jack Puckett; sisters, Lavonne Gray, Jean Hancock and Anita Puckett Harkey, his former father-in-law, Rev. Ray Barnett; and several aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his sons, Michael R. Puckett of Fort Collins, CO and Daniel E. Puckett (Brandy) of Magee, MS; ex-wife and mother of his sons, Marilyn Puckett of Magee, MS; his grandchildren, Laythan Puckett, Layla Puckett and Laynee Puckett of Magee, MS; brothers, Dwayne Puckett of Magee, MS and Randy Puckett (Linda) of Mendenhall, MS; sisters, JoAnn Harry of Magee, MS, Cyndi “CC” Myers (Gibby) of Brandon, MS, Yvonne Layton (David) of Magee, MS, Hilda Lyons of Magee, MS; sister-in-law, Maxine Puckett of Mt. Olive, MS; brother-in-law, Curtis Harkey of Magee, MS; former mother-in-law Carolyn V. Barnett of Magee, MS; former brother-in-law Randy R. Barnett of Mendenhall, MS; former sisters-in-law, Brenda Gregory of Magee, MS and Sandra Burkes of Mt. Olive, MS, and a large host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.
