Cathleen Maria Schmidt

Cathleen Maria Schmidt, age 48, died at University Hospital on Thursday July 21, 2016, from complications of pneumonia. Born December 11, 1967 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada she lived in San Jose, San Diego and Denver and worked for a number of non-profit organizations, including the Denver Coalition for the Homeless and Denver Rescue Mission, and ran AmeriCorps programs at both Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Catholic Charities until becoming a mom in 2006. She adored her daughter Emma and loved being a mom. Cathleen was a compassionate member of the community as well as a talented photographer. She loved skiing, hiking, biking, traveling, and experiencing life with friends. Cathleen had a definite joy for life, a big heart and a beautiful smile. Survivors include her parents Volk and Sharen Schmidt of San Jose, CA; Fred Schmidt of Palo Alto, CA; Eberhard and Susie Schmidt of Spokane, WA; Illa Imus of Arlington, VA; Diane Imus of New Zealand; Mark and Karen Fornier Lancaster, CA; Joshua Fornier of Salem, OR; Hans Schmidt of Spokane, WA; Justin and Janeen Schmidt of Spokane, WA; her husband Paul Herzog and her daughter Emma Herzog of Denver, CO. Cathleen was preceded in death by her grandmother Rita Amdal and her grandmother Maria Schmidt. A celebration of Cathleen's life will be held at 11am, Saturday September 24, 2016 in Denver at a location TBD.
