Catherine Lorraine McConchie

Catherine L. (Hartwig) McConchie, aged 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Denver, Colorado, on Friday, July 3.

Cathie was born in Iowa City, Iowa to Otto and Doris (Strickel) Hartwig, the 13th out of 14 children and grew up in Anamosa, graduating from Marion High School in 1957, winning the local award of Homemaker of Tomorrow. Cathie had many talents including painting, cooking, sewing, crafting, crocheting, decorating cakes, she even learned to belly dance.

She is survived by her children, Diane (Adrian) Porras of Aurora, CO; Susan McConchie of Littleton, CO; and Deborah McConchie of Maquoketa, IA; her grandchildren, Ali (Daniel) Belger, Nicole Thomas, Joshua Hosch, Kelsey Hosch, and Abbey Hosch; her great-grandson, Danny; and her siblings, June Miller, Charlie Hartwig, and Jim Hartwig. She was preceded in death by her siblings Dick, Keith, Rhoda, Anna, Sarah, Bob, DeLite, JoAnn, John, and Buzzy.

Catherine spent 33 years in federal civil service, a career she took great pride in. She was a long-term breast cancer survivor and a committed supporter of cancer research.

Catherine's family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a breast cancer research organization of your choice.
