Carter Markwood Harris, a bright, kind and thoughtful spirit, was born on May 21, 2015. Tragically, he was taken from this world on November 22, 2025, at the tender age of 10. Our family is lost without him. From the minute he was born, we were all captivated by his big, beautiful eyes. They gave us a glimpse into his brilliant mind and wise and empathic soul. We often shared with Carter how grateful we were for him, and that once he was born, we knew our family was complete. He is essential to the wholeness of our family and the thought of not having him with us every day is too much to bear.
Carter was treasured by his family and was a beloved son. He was cuddly, affectionate, and loved to be with our family. He enjoyed talking about his passions with us, such as outer space, including the stars, and his favorite planet, Jupiter. He loved physics and conducting experiments. He could often be heard joyfully laughing as he played VR and other games with his friends. Carter was also musical, and our family loved hearing his sweet voice sing throughout the house. Every night before bed, he loved being tucked in, kissed on the forehead, and being told he was safe and loved.
In addition to being an incredible son, he was a devoted little brother to his sister Quinn. He looked up to her from the very beginning and loved her fiercely. As young children, they were inseparable and played constantly. He longed to be near her and do whatever she was doing. Since they were only two years apart, they grew up alongside one another and had an unbreakable bond.
Three years ago, Quinn was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma. Carter worried immensely about Quinn’s health and became her protector in some ways. Her treatments forced him to be flexible and patient. Sometimes his own needs were put aside during her medical care, which was difficult. Even so, his love for her remained steadfast.
Just as he was a loving brother, Carter was a loyal friend. His teachers at school would often comment about how much his friendships meant to him. He has a caring group of longtime friends at Parmalee Elementary School. He truly loved them all like brothers. We hope that they know how loved they were by Carter and that they were good friends in return. At home, we would often have philosophical conversations with Carter about what it meant to be a good friend and a good person. Kindness, helping others, and being good to others was very important to him.
Though his time with us was nowhere near long enough, Carter made an impact in this world. At the end of his life, Carter was able to donate his organs to help others survive. He is a hero and would be so proud of helping others who were sick. Our family constantly thinks of his donor recipients and hope that their families feel peace and hope.
Carter is survived by his mother and father, Brooke and Chad Harris, and his big sister Quinn Harris. His grandmother Cherie Pasley Clayton, his Uncle Geoffrey Babbitt (Kathryn Cowles) and Aunt Laramie Jake (Jared) will also miss him terribly. His cousins Remi, Calder, Sobin, and Paloma will carry on his love within our family. He is also survived by extended family, and dear family friends that have held us up as our hearts have broken.
A Celebration of Carter's life will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025 beginning at 3:30PM at The Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park, 26624 North Turkey Creek Road, Evergreen, Colorado. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking the link below:

We would like to thank our family, friends, the Evergreen and Conifer communities, the Parmalee Elementary School community, and our colleagues for helping us through this devastating time. We could not do this without your love and compassion. We also want to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Children’s Hospital Colorado at Anschutz. You became our second home during Quinn’s cancer journey, and you all wrapped us with love and wept alongside us after Carter’s accident. You are more than a hospital to us: you are part of our family. Thank you for deeply caring about us and for treating Carter with such love and respect during his recent stay.
If you would like to donate in Carter’s honor, please consider a donation to The Little Warrior Foundation. This organization is working to find a cure and better treatments for Ewing Sarcoma, so it is important to Carter and our entire family. You are also welcome to donate in his memory to the Donor Alliance. The Donor Alliance sat with us in our pain, and they are making a difference to many families.
We love you so much, Carter Markwood. We would do anything to have you back.
Please share your memories of Carter and condolences with his family by signing the guest book below.
