Carolyn E. Babcock

August 8, 1928 — October 13, 2017

Carolyn E. Babcock August 8, 1928-October 13, 2017 Carolyn Elizabeth (Davis) Babcock, aged 89, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2017. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. Carolyn was born in Glenwood, Alabama. Her family later moved to Luverne and then to Troy where Carolyn grew up. Carolyn graduated from high school Valedictorian. However, she was so shy she asked her teacher to have someone else give the Valedictorian speech. Carolyn moved to Montgomery to attend secretarial school where she lived with her brother Billy and sister-in-law Elizabeth. Carolyn and a friend attended a dance where the military men also went. That’s where she met Walter. They had a whirl-wind romance and married 3 months later. After Walter’s term in the service was completed they moved back to Walter’s home in Denver where they raised their 4 children. Carolyn’s main concern and top priority were her children. For the first 10 years of their marriage Carolyn stayed home with her children. But, as so often happens, she had to start a career in the working world. So, she made sure she applied for a job that was close to home, had good benefits and a pension (smart woman!). She began work in 1962 at Fort Logan Mental Health Center in the administrative services arena. She later moved to the Colorado Division of Mental Health and retired in 1989. She was a consummate professional and highly respected by everyone with whom she worked. Carolyn loved taking care of her family. She was always available to watch the grandchildren and loved to snuggle with them at night and read them stories. She made each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel special. She is survived by her four children, Teri Clardy (Jim), Dan (Julie Ann), Deb Brown (Doug), Julie Beth Babcock (David Sislowski), her nine grandchildren, her fourteen great grandchildren, her sister Joanne Watkins, and brothers Cass Davis and T. Bob Davis (Janis). She will leave a tremendous hole in everyone’s heart. Visitation Sunday, 10/22/17, 3:00-6:00 pm, Funeral Service Tuesday 10/24/17, 11:00 am, both at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Interment Fort Logan National Cemetery, reception to follow at Horan & McConaty. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, ALZ.org.
