Carol Burdick Leatherman, age 79, died peacefully in her home on May 31, 2025. She was born in Washington, D.C. to Larry and Janet Burdick and spent her childhood in Wheatridge, CO where she attended Wheatridge High School. She started college at SMU and later transferred to the University of Colorado where she met the love of her life, Dennis. During their almost 59 year marriage, they lived in Houston, TX, Charlotte, NC, Deerfield, IL, Pittsburgh, PA, Castle Rock, CO and most recently moved to Erickson Windcrest in Highlands Ranch, CO.
While in Pittsburgh, Carol completed her BS degree in Education at the University of Pittsburgh and worked part time as an independent sales agent in the food industry for over 20 years. She was the loving mother of 2 children, Nancy and Michael and spent countless hours on their activities, sporting events, homemade costumes and crafts. Carol was also active in multiple volunteer organizations including the Junior Women’s Club in Pittsburgh and the American Association of University Women in Colorado.
Carol was an avid duplicate and contract bridge player, achieving her Life Master in 2011. She was also a voracious reader, rarely leaving home without her Kindle. Carol was also an accomplished backgammon player, winning many competitions including a national doubles event with husband Dennis in 2000. She loved jigsaw puzzles and games of all kinds. Denny and Carol traveled extensively both in the US and abroad but her favorite destination was Hilton Head, SC where she loved to indulge in her favorite food, crab legs.
Carol is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dennis Leatherman, children Nancy Leatherman (Denver, CO) and Michael Leatherman (Longmont, CO), and her brother Daniel Burdick (Colleen) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
A Catholic funeral mass followed by a lunch reception will be held at Horan & McConaty Mortuary (5303 E County Line Road, Centennial, CO 80122) on Wednesday June 18, 2025 at 11 am. Internment will take place with a small private family gathering at Seven Stones, Chatfield.
