Carla Gene (Schneider) Shankle, 62, of Greenwood Village CO passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024, with her family by her side. Carla was born in Casper, WY but was raised in Tulsa, OK before moving to Cherry Hills Village, CO in high school. She graduated high school from the Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs where she was a dedicated volleyball, basketball, and tennis player. Carla received her B.A. from Colorado College and her J.D. from the University of Denver Law School. In Carla’s young life, she was a stellar athlete competing in tennis with her best friends, and skiing with friends and family whenever given the chance. She loved to explore the world, having taken many trips to Europe and Africa with her family and friends. Carla met the love of her life, Matt, in Seattle and they were later married on September 16, 1995, in Grand Lake, CO. Carla was passionate about everything she put her mind to but was most passionate about her children. Alexandra (26) was the center of Carla’s world, making Carla an advocate for special needs rights, health, and education. Geno (23), Holly (21), and Kelsey (21) all attended the Kent Denver School at which Carla was an avid fan of their football, lacrosse, hockey, and basketball games. She was passionate about education and supported her children in their endeavors of higher education at the University of Southern California, Claremont McKenna College, and Colorado College. Carla is survived by her four beloved children: Alexandra, Geno, Holly, and Kelsey; her siblings: Tina Wildes and Mark Schneider; as well as many nieces, nephews, and good friends. Carla was the fourth of four children and was preceded in death by her loving husband Matt, parents Phyllis and Gene, and sister Marta Randell. Carla Shankle’s memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 24, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 2200 S Harrison St, Denver, CO 80210. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Grand Lake Sailing Foundation for the adaptive programs - GLYC SAILING FOUNDATION - HOME (grandlakesailingfoundation.org) (in comment preference for adaptive programs), the Global Down Syndrome Foundation Home | Global Down Syndrome Foundation, or the Miracle League of Metro Denver Miracle League Metro Denver | Colorado | Sports Made Possible (miracleleaguedenver.com). The family also requests that bright colors be worn to the memorial service.
