Obituary

Carl Mosher was born on December 18, 1941, in Lansing, Michigan. Some of his fondest childhood memories were filled with life’s simple pleasures: fresh hot dogs, cold banana splits, and fishing. These moments captured the joy of growing up and the simple things that make life memorable.

A proud U.S. Air Force veteran, Carl spent much of his life working in Colorado and several other states before settling into a 30-year career as a civilian contractor at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. During his years in Okinawa, Carl became an active member of SGI Okinawa, where he touched many lives through his heartfelt encouragement, guidance, and genuine care for others.

Carl had a special gift for making people feel remembered and loved, often through simple but meaningful acts of kindness. During the holidays in Okinawa, he delighted children by dressing up as Santa Claus at his seven-story apartment building and at a nearby day care center. His generosity extended well beyond the Christmas season. Each Thanksgiving, Carl delivered complete holiday meals to family, friends, and the nursing home where his beloved wife, Reiko, lived. His neighbors were also fortunate recipients of his kindness, often finding themselves surprised with freshly baked cookies, delivered simply to brighten their day.

These thoughtful gestures reflected the man Carl was; generous, caring, and always willing to bring a little happiness into someone else’s day. Whether offering words of encouragement, delivering a holiday meal, baking cookies, or making children smile as Santa Claus, Carl found meaningful ways to connect with others and make a difference in their lives.

Carl returned to Colorado for the final year of his life. His beloved wife of 59 years, Reiko, preceded him in death on May 12, 2025. Their life together was a treasured chapter, and her memory remained an important part of his story.

Carl leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his daughter, Tokie; son-in-law, Eric; granddaughters, Talayna and Briana; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Aunalise, Talia, and Anakin; his brother, Earl; sister-in-law, Cindy; and several nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Though he will be deeply missed, the warmth he shared, the lives he encouraged, and the kindness he showed will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
