Bonnie Macpherson Garrett, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, in Littleton, Colorado, at the age of 77.
Born on September 18, 1948, to Rupert and Florence Macpherson on Long Island, New York, Bonnie was a loyal and devoted daughter who carried the values of her upbringing with her throughout her life. She graduated from Wilton High School in Wilton, Connecticut in 1967 and went on to attend Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She married John Garrett in 1970 and the two began their life together as a military couple stationed in Germany. They welcomed their sons John R. in 1976 and David in 1980. As a family, they lived in various states and the Azores before settling in New Baden, Illinois in 1988. In 2018, Bonnie and John made one final move to Colorado to be close to their sons and grandchildren—a decision that meant the world to the whole family.
Being a mother was something that Bonnie took to heart in every possible way, and she poured herself wholeheartedly into the lives of her children. She was a devoted band mom who gave countless hours to her boys (even stepping in as an unofficial tour guide on band trips to Washington, D.C. when she deemed it necessary), and she traveled all over the country to be there for John and David every chance she got. That same fierce, unwavering devotion carried into her role as Gram, and few things brought her more joy than sitting down to play games with her grandchildren, creating memories that her grandchildren will forever carry with them. Her sense of humor was a constant source of laughter, and it was a gift her family got to cherish right up until her final days. She was also a talented cook, crocheter, and seamstress. The things she made with her hands were made, above all, with love.
Bonnie is survived by her sons, John R. (Natalia) and David (Dawn); her grandchildren, Jayden, Andrew, Collin, and Sage; her aunt, Joan Horner; her niece, Ellen (Anthony) Squyars; and her cousins, Linda (Peter) Madsen, Deanne (Bill) Raynes, and Bill (Pam) Horner. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Garrett; her parents, Rupert and Florence Macpherson; and her brother, William Macpherson.
Arrangements in Colorado are under the care of Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Centennial, CO. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Marshall-March Funeral Home in Suitland, Maryland, followed by burial at Washington National Cemetery in Suitland-Silver Hill, Maryland.
