Betty I. Neale died Friday, October 12, 2018, at the age of 91, at the HighPointe Assisted Living community in Denver, Colorado.

Mrs. Neale is preceded in death by her former husband, Dory J. Neale Sr., and eldest son Dory Neale Jr. She is survived by two children: Scott P. Neale and Steven M. Neale, and four grandchildren.

Born in 1927 in Hiawatha, Kansas, Mrs. Neale moved to Topeka, Kansas and then married. In 1958 she and her family moved to Denver, Colorado.

It was in Denver that Mrs. Neale was called to take part in public life. First she worked as a volunteer for the Republican Party in several local and national races. In 1975, Mrs. Neale resolved to take her dedication to good government to the fullest and ran successfully for Representative of district 14, in the Colorado State House.

Mrs. Neale went on to serve for 18 years in the Colorado House. During her tenure she sat on committees such as Appropriations, Finance, Legislative Audit, and Joint Budget. Mrs. Neale was the first 1st woman to hold the House Speaker Pro Tem, 1991 to 1992.

After leaving elected office Mrs. Neale then worked for the City and County of Denver, Colorado until her retirement.

Mrs. Neale also loved traveling and associating with the many people she met while in elected office or at work.

A memorial for the public will be held Friday, November 2, 2018, 10:00 AM, at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver, Colorado.
