Betty Louise Booton was born March 8, 1924 in Grinnell Iowa to Josephine (Giles) and William Swindal.
She passed away peacefully at Clermont Park on November 12, 2020. In her final months, she was surrounded by the loving, attentive staff of Clermont Park and Compassus Hospice.
She visited with family in person and via Zoom, the newfound connection for a 96-year-old.
Burial will be at Fort Logan Cemetery where her ashes will be interred with her husband, Boots.
A family celebration of Betty’s life will be held on a sunny Colorado day in the future.
Betty met “Boots”, Lowell Dean Booton, at a USO dance in Grinnell IA in 1942. Their dance lasted 68 years and together they raised five children. “Warm, loving and caring…you always felt welcome” in Betty Booton’s presence.
In her 96 years, Betty was an avid reader, a loyal friend, and a good cook. She loved flowers, especially roses, and as a woman of faith she was gracious and hopeful. Smart, savvy and a quick learner, Betty and her sister, Ruth remotely managed a family farm in Iowa.
She became a reluctant golfer only to discover she did enjoy the game, often playing with Boots.
Betty worked retail; mostly so she had a discount to buy gifts for her children, grandkids and great-great grandkids. She had great taste and her gifts were filled with love and laughter!
She is survived by her sister Ruth Franger, San Diego CA, and her children, Jeffrey Booton (Dee) Mancos, CO; Cynthia Booton, Denver, CO; Greg Booton, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, James Booton (Debbie) Columbia, Kentucky and Gary Booton, Denver, CO. Grandchildren, Jeffrey McElwain (Peggy), Jill Cooper (Todd), Jason Elmore (Kelly), Josh Booton, Jacob Booton (Kathleen) She had five great-grandchildren, Kate McElwain, Daniel McElwain, Owen Cooper, Wyatt Cooper, and Julian Booton all of Denver, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family remembers her laughter and are grateful for her generous spirit. Recently, she told us of her plans for “dinner and dancing!”.
We like the image of Betty and Boots dancing together again to the sounds of the Big Band era.
She was determined to vote in the 2020 election, and proud to do so.
She was a woman of strength and courage, full of faith and love.
She richly blessed her family, and she will be missed by them.
She would want you to brighten someone’s day with the gift of flowers.
