Bernard J. ""BJ"" Tierney

Bernard J. ""BJ"" Tierney passed away on Dec. 2, 2018, at his home at Ralston Creek Neighborhood Assisted Living in Arvada Colorado. He was 94 years old. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska to parents John and Orah (Squires) Tierney. He was the youngest of 4 children. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen (Sabin) Hooper of Nebraska, his sister Patricia Tierney of Virginia and his brother John (Marian) Tierney, Jr. of Florida.

His early life was spent in Broken Bow, Nebraska and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He graduated from Scottsbluff High School in 1942. He was a WW II veteran and entered the US Army in January 1943. He was stationed in New Orleans and Little Rock before shipping out to England, and then to Wales in March of 1944. He set sail to Normandy on June, 6, 1944. He landed on Utah Beach on day 2 of the allied invasion, and served across Europe into Germany until his discharge in January, 1946.

After the army, he returned to Scottsbluff. He married Jo Ann Nielsen in 1953. They were married for 52 years. They lived in Scottsbluff and Albuquerque before settling in Denver, but also spent many winters at their second home in Arizona where he could golf every day. BJ and Jo made long and lasting friendships everywhere they lived. During retirement he and Jo enjoyed extensive travel, and he pursued his favorite pass time - golf. He was a member of Pinehurst Country Club for many years, but also golfed across the country and abroad. Jo Ann preceded him in death in 2005.

BJ was a born salesman and after several years of working for others, he started his own business, BJ Tierney Sales in 1969. In addition he also started Vinyl Laminators in 1975. Both businesses were very successful and contributed to the metro area's construction industry.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews: Jerry (Mary) Hooper of Arvada, Jo Anne Fitzgibbons (Pat) of Westminster and Helen Hooper (David Boardman) of Arvada, John (Carey) Tierney and Sandy (Dan) Dunlap of Florida, and Kathy Tierney and David (Jennifer) Tierney of Virginia.

BJ's family would like to thank the wonderful care staff at Ralston Creek Neighborhood and Divine Hospice for the excellent care and companionship they provided during BJ's last months. A memorial service will be held December 18, 2018 at 1:00 at the Horan & McConaty chapel located at 3101 S. Wadsworth in Lakewood, CO. At BJ's request, in lieu of flowers, please make charitable contributions to St. Jude's Children Hospital, or the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Ft. Logan at a later date.
