Bernard Kent Nilson

Bernard Nilson, age 78, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. He was born on May 28, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, to Claude Nilson and Hazel Magni.

A vibrant child with a quick wit, Bernie was well-known for receiving “talks too much” and “class clown” remarks on his report cards—an early preview of the humor and warmth he would share throughout his life.

He graduated from Lincoln High School, where he formed lifelong friendships that he cherished for decades. From 1966–1970, he proudly served in the United States Air Force, earning the Air Force Commendation Award for his meticulous attention to detail in maintaining aircraft readiness for battle during Vietnam.

After his service, he moved to California to attend California State University, Long Beach, earning his bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1976. He enjoyed a successful career in sales and management, most notably with Philip Morris USA, where his leadership and people skills left a lasting impact.

Bernie was the younger brother to Barb and Claudia, a devoted father to his three daughters—Natalie, Dana, and Carly—a loving grandfather to his four grandchildren, and revered as the world’s best uncle. He shared a beautiful life with the love of his life and best friend, Diane Doyle. His humor was legendary, and he had a knack for keeping everyone laughing, even in the most serious of moments.

A celebration of his life will be held on October 10, 2025 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, followed by a reception at the VFW. Family and friends are invited to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man who truly believed that joy was meant to be shared.

He will be remembered for his faith in God, his devotion to family, his honorable service to his country, and his gift for bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
