Bernard “Joe” Joseph Musso, Jr., 76, of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Memorial Day weekend, May 24, 2026, at his son’s home, surrounded by his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, servant, and friend.
Joe was born on March 3, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas, to Joyce and Bernard Musso, and spent his formative years in Pueblo, Colorado. His mother was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Joe embraced that faith throughout his life. He dearly loved his parents and his siblings, Cathy and Brian. As a youth he enjoyed Scouts, waterskiing, cars, and dating. Joe graduated from East High School in 1968, where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Linda Wood. Immediately after graduation, he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army and soon discovered an aptitude for flying helicopters.
Joe’s Army service included two tours in Vietnam. He was a genuine hero to those he served with, and many knew that the sound of the beating blades of Joe’s Huey meant their lives would be spared. He was a decorated soldier, most notably earning the Distinguished Flying Cross for “extraordinary heroism in aerial flight, completely distinct from routine duties” by rescuing hundreds of villagers during a typhoon at great personal risk.
Joe’s greatest earthly blessing was marrying his best friend, Linda, in 1972. His career in entrepreneurship, sales, and construction led their family across the Southwest, with homes in Pueblo (three times); Gallup, New Mexico; St. George, Utah; Montrose, Colorado; and ultimately Castle Rock. He loved the beauty of the Colorado mountains and the serenity of Lake Powell. Joe’s greatest pride was his children—Chris, Lori, and Tiffany—and his greatest joy was serving others. He and Linda were widely appreciated wherever they were, but especially in Pueblo for their full-time work with a local charity serving people experiencing homelessness.
A man of deep faith, Joe found tremendous fulfillment by serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years he held numerous callings, including ward and stake mission leader, high priests group leader, bishopric counselor, high councilor, and teacher. In his later years, he especially cherished his service in the Denver Colorado Temple. He also enjoyed crafting heirloom birdhouses for neighbors and friends and lifting the spirits of his eleven beloved grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cathy, and his grandson Corey. He is survived by his wife Linda; his brother Brian (Kathy); his children Chris (Emily), Lori Schroath (Jim), and Tiffany Decker (Ryan); and his grandchildren Emeri, William, Joseph, Amelia, Andrew, Brooke, Hallie, Richie, Ruby, and Grace.
Joe was deeply loved by his family and friends. His kindness, courage, and unwavering faith have left a lasting legacy that will continue to bless generations to come.
A memorial service will be held in Joe’s honor on Saturday, June 6, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 701 Oakwood Drive, Castle Rock, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, Joe requested that donations be made to the Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen, 422 W. 7th Street, Pueblo, CO 81003. Pueblo Community Soup Kitchen
