Bernadette “Bernie” M. Johnson (68) passed away on February 18th, 2024, with her family and friends by her side in Longmont, Colorado, where she was a long-time resident. Bernie is proceeded in death by her beloved mother and best friend, Clara M. Montoya, her beloved dogs, Engel Jazz, Bohns, and Sugar, her grandparents, Espiridion and Flora Montoya, beloved uncles and aunts, Joe and Edna Montoya, Lupita and Nick Pachecho, Zeke Montoya, and many beloved cousins. Bernie is survived by her Uncle Bobby Montoya, Uncle and Aunt Ron and Irene Poppert, Aunt Jesusita “Chuy” Montoya, and many cousins whom she loved deeply and enjoyed spending time with.
Bernie was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on February 10th, 1956. She grew up throughout the Southwest, graduating from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs and later obtained an associate degree. Bernie had a long and decorated career as a civil servant, working in accounting and finance for the United States government for over 40 years. She enjoyed working for the Department of Defense, at the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center at Lowry Air Force base, and for the Department of Commerce, at the Mountain Area Service Center and at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Boulder.
Bernie was an avid Rockies and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She enjoyed traveling, especially road trips, and being out in nature. Bernie enjoyed the arts and loved listening to music and watching movies. Mostly, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered as the most devoted and loving friend.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Erie, CO on April 22, 2024, at 11am. Interment will follow at Rocky Mountain Memorial Park Cremation Gardens in Centennial, Colorado (5303 E County Line Rd. Centennial, CO 80122).
