Barbara Ann Coatney, 72, of Aurora passed away on Wednesday November 5, 2014. She is survived and very loved by her Husband of 55 years, Sanford Ellis Coatney, Her 5 Children, Venessa (Jim) Harmel, Daphnie (Mike) Massey, Richard (Susan) Coatney, Shannon (Dean) Picchione and Monique (Jon) Waddington, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Barbara Ann was born to Lora and Robert Phillips on March 4, 1942 in Abilene TX. She grew up and attended High School in Amarillo TX. Barbara married Sanford Ellis Coatney on November 28, 1959. Their first year of marriage was spent in Augusta GA, while Ellis served in the US Army. Barbara loved the magnolia trees and enjoyed the southern traditions. In 1960 they returned to Amarillo and began a family in 1961 when their first of 5 children was born. Their 2nd daughter was born 18 months later and then in 1965 they moved to Pueblo CO with 1 year old son, Richard and his two older sisters, where they lived until 1967, before settling in Albuquerque NM for the next 20 years. While residing in Albuquerque, Barbara gave birth to daughters, Shannon and Monique. Prior to entering the workforce she enjoyed her life as a Homemaker, Sunday School Teacher and Girl Scout Troop Leader. Once all of the kids started school she began a career as a Unit Clerk in the Neonatal Nursery at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. She loved babies. Barbara continued her work as a medical receptionist for several pediatricians in the Albuquerque area until 1986 when she moved to Aurora, Colorado with Ellis, where his career had taken them. Barbara worked for a doctor in Aurora before taking several months off to provide care for Emma, her 7th grandchild. In 1997 she returned to work managing a dry cleaning service and then joined Dish Network as a customer service rep where she retired after a few years. Barbara and Ellis resided at the Cherry Creek Retirement Center. This is where a service to reflect and celebrate her life will be held for Barbara on Friday, November 14, 2014 at 1pm.
