Audrey was born Audrey Ann Matzke, June 13th, 1930 in Winona, Minnesota. She passed away peacefully, in the early hours of March 9th, 2023, at Golden Pond Assisted Living Community in Golden, Colorado.
Audrey attended high school in Winona, Minnesota, where she met her first husband, Merle William Peterson. They were married a year after graduation on August 27th, 1949. They had 3 children, Greg and Terry who were born in Minnesota and Connie who was born across the river in Wisconsin. They packed up and moved to Golden, Colorado in 1958. They separated after all the children had graduated from Golden High School and started families of their own.
On November 5th, 1977, Audrey married Lennard Erling Vik, the love of her life. Len and Audrey built a mountain home up in Grand Lake, Colorado and enjoyed golf, boating, fishing, and entertaining during the beautiful summer months and snowmobiling in the winter. Eventually because of their mutual love of golf they became “snowbirds” purchasing property at Apache Wells in Mesa AZ and built a home along one of the greenways. An added bonus for Audrey was the close proximity to gambling casinos which eventually overtook her love of golf.
In the spring of 2019, with health concerns on the horizon, they made the decision to sell their AZ property to live in their Lookout Mountain home. Sadly in 2020 they moved into the Golden Pond Assisted Living Community as Lennard had begun to develop Alzheimer’s and they were getting to the point where they both began to need assistance. Lennard passed while in Memory Care on March 2nd, 2021 and was buried on March 9th, 2021.
Audrey is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lennard Vik, her sister Elaine Pickett, and her two brothers, Willard Matzke, and Howard Matzke. She is survived by her children, Greg Peterson, Terry Peterson, and Connie (Conrad) Janzer. She has two grandchildren Amber Sharick (Max Wehri) and Michael Peterson (Lori Pena) three great-grandchildren Spencer Karley, Savannah and Tristan Wehri, and four stepchildren, Kelly, Lisa, Andy, and Holly and their families.
