Andrew J. Capra, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, entered into eternal life peacefully on June 23, 2026, at the age of 89. A devoted, kind, sweet, and unselfish man, he leaves behind a legacy of love, quiet strength, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. Born on August 6, 1936, in Denver, Colorado, to Joe and Sue Capra, he grew up with strong values of faith, culture, community, family, hard work, and integrity. Those values guided him throughout his life and shaped how he lived, supported his family, and surrounded everyone around him with love, faith, and generosity.
He was the oldest of three boys and the first grandson in his large extended Italian family. He graduated in 1954 from Cathedral High School in Denver with his classmate and future wife, Janet Murphy Capra. It was with great pride, for both him and his family, that he attended and completed his engineering degree at Notre Dame University. He remained a proud fan of the “Fighting Irish” following the sports program and purchasing Notre Dame apparel…a staple of his everyday wardrobe.
Following his college graduation, he began his engineering career with Martin-Marietta. After a brief stint as a junior high math teacher, he returned to work in the power division at Stearns-Roger Engineering Firm and ultimately retired from Lockheed Martin Aerospace where he applied his sharp, mathematical mind as a true “rocket scientist” designing launch systems for the Titan missile system.
Andy was the proud father of four daughters, whom he adored beyond measure. He devoted his life to them—showing up for every milestone, big and small, and offering steady guidance, gentle wisdom, and unwavering love. He listened without judgment, encouraged without pressure, and gave of himself without ever asking for anything in return. To his daughters, he was not only a father but also a fierce protector, provider, and male role model.
Known for his soft-hearted nature, he would lend a listening ear or offer a quiet word of support, giving his time, care, and financial support to those in need. He found joy in simple things—time with family, a good conversation, and the comfort of being together.
Golf was arguably his favorite pastime. He was a long-time member of Foothill Golf Club with his brothers and father, playing in leagues with friends and former colleagues until he was physically unable. An avid skier, he enjoyed his time on the slopes with his daughters and brother Rick. His other favorite pastime was spending time with his stalwart friends for breakfast and lunch; friendships he prioritized and shaped his weekly schedule around.
Preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Sue Capra, brother Joseph Capra and wife Janet, Andy is survived by his four loving daughters, Mary Pott (Steve), Katharine Walsh (Bill), Brigid Ochsner (Brian), Meghan Martelon Evans (Mike); his brother Rick Capra (Sally); grandchildren, Sean Pott (Emily), Daniel Pott (Clare), Stephanie Cole (Miles), Hannah Burgasser (Tyler), Caroline Martelon (Matthew Stingel), Jakob Pott, Damian Ochsner (Lisa), Zachary Ochsner; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Though he will be deeply missed, his example of kindness, humility, patience, faith, and loyalty will continue to guide those he leaves behind.
A visitation will be held on June 30, 2026, at Horan & McConaty at 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver CO 80246 from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM, followed by the recitation of the Rosary. A funeral service celebrating Andy’s life will follow on July 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mother of God Catholic Church at 475 Logan Street, Denver, CO 80203, with burial immediately following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend. A reception will follow at the home of Brigid and Brian Ochsner at 2729 E. Alameda Ave., Denver, CO. 80209.
The funeral service will be livestreamed. A link will be posted closer to the day of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to his parish, Mother of God Catholic Church, or that you honor him by doing a simple act of kindness for someone in need—just as he did so often throughout his life.
