Alma "Vangie" Evangeline Rountree

Alma Evangeline McCracken was born November 8, 1923, in Rocky Ford, Colorado. She lived to be 102 years old. She was raised in Las Animas, Colorado. Vangie was raised with seven siblings (2 brothers and 5 sisters). Vangie married Leonard Rountree on December 16, 1941, in Raton, New Mexico. Together they raised three children: Jean Lara, Marilyn Wilson, and Larry Rountree.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Rountree (2008), her daughters Jean Lara (2025), and Marilyn Wilson (2007). Vangie is the proud grandmother of eight. The great grandmother of eleven; and, the great, great grandmother of ten. Vangie loved her family. She enjoyed doing crafts, ceramics, sewing, and crocheting and would make gifts for family members. Vangie is known for her Bacardi Rum Cake and her Sweet Bread and Butter Pickles.

Vangie and Leonard were very active with the Commerce City Senior Citizens. They lived in Commerce City for 63 years. They participated in many events and trips with the Commerce City Seniors and enjoyed entertaining. Vangie loved summer time, gambling, watermelon, and the wide-open prairie.

Vangie was a wonderful wife, mother, amazing grandmother, sister, aunt, and daughter-in-law. At 102 years old, she outlived many of her friends. She lived through so much and never took anything for granted. A special thanks to Mary and Rene Ponville, Marilyn Krause, and Sherrell Boen for supporting her as friends to the end. She had a vest for life -- spicy and unfiltered. We miss her dearly and her daily phone conversations. She kept everyone on track and help guide everyone through this life’s journey. Her knowledge and love are very much missed.
