Alma Roberts, a woman whose joyful spirit and faithful heart touched everyone she met, passed away peacefully at her home in Henderson, Colorado, on July 24, 2025. She was 101 years old.
Born at home, February 10, 1924, in Windsor, Colorado, Alma was the fourth of six children to Alexander and Katherine (Stoll) Oblander. Her parents were Volga German farmers who raised dairy cattle and grew sugar beets, wheat, corn, and hay.
Alma grew up on family farms across Greeley, Windsor, Severance, and Gill, Colorado, and spent several years in Wheatland, Wyoming, during the Great Depression. After graduating from Gill High School in 1941, she moved to Denver. She earned her degree from Barnes Business College and launched her career, but she always made time to return home on weekends to see her family and friends.
Alma and her future husband, Carl Roberts, first met through their families' shared membership at St. John's German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greeley. Their bond grew stronger while he served in WWII, as they corresponded through letters. They married on May 18, 1947, at the same church. Starting their lives together in Denver, they attended the First German Congregational Church of Denver (now Fellowship Covenant Church in Arvada). Following the birth of their son, James (Jim), the family moved to Henderson and later welcomed a daughter, Carolyn. Alma's immeasurable happiness came from her role as grandmother to Carl A. Roberts, son of James.
A dedicated member of her community, Alma was a dynamic 4-H Club Leader, 4-H Project Leader and fair volunteer in Adams County for many years. She also had a successful career as an executive secretary in the traffic department at Ideal Basic Industries in Denver, where she eventually retired.
Alma's greatest joys were her family and friends. A talented cook, baker, and canner, she preserved traditional family recipes passed down from her mother and mother-in-law. She had an immense love for life, which shone through in her passions. A longtime member of the Polka Lovers Klub of America-Colorado Chapter, she was an enthusiastic dutch hop (polka) dancer. Always active, she was a 25-year member of the Thornton Recreation Center, where she attended aquasize classes regularly until 2020.
Alma loved to travel, creating cherished memories exploring Europe, the Caribbean, and destinations across the U.S., Canada, and especially the Colorado mountains.
Alma Roberts's memory will be cherished by all who were touched by her vibrant and joyful spirit.
Alma is now reunited with her husband, Carl Roberts; her son, James (Jim) Roberts; her parents, Alexander and Katherine Oblander; and her siblings, Freda Wuest, Herman Oblander, Alvene Oblander, Raymond Oblander, and Esther Hergenreder. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Roberts, her grandson, Carl Roberts and dozens of devoted nieces & nephews; and wonderful friends.
