In specific regard to Allen, he grew up in Wheaton, Illinois where he was active in Wheaton Central High School and participated in the band, playing trombone. He also worked as the head lifeguard and manager at Wheaton North Pool which is where we met. Diving into the deep end to retrieve a heavy boulder was not a favorite of mine, and Allen never let me forget that...Allen worked for the Wheaton North Park District for many years in the summer, but attended Iowa State University during the year for his undergrad degree in Biology and Botany and his Masters in Biological Sciences, leading to his teaching at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood, Colorado for 32 years, with emphasis on Chemistry and Biology. He was almost drafted into the service, but his number, 82, wasn't called. The line for the draft ended that year at 80. While he waited, he worked again for the Wheaton Park District. He then continued at Iowa State finishing his Masters, while I finished my undergrad degree in English Literature and Composition. We were married Aug. 18, 1973 in Wheaton, Illinois at St. Mark's Catholic Church, and remained married 52 years. We had also dated 6 years, before being engaged for 2 years... After our schooling, we moved to Colorado where Allen worked at Green Mountain High School in Lakewood. He was, at one point, Head of the Science Department, where he absolutely loved working with his colleagues and friends. We had two children, Heather and Ryan, during our early working years, and we attended Light of the World Catholic Church, a faith of my childhood years. Allen had grown up Methodist in Wheaton, but in Colorado, he attended church with me at Light of the World and St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Churches. In Allen's past hobbies, he loved swimming, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, traveling to Minnesota to fish, being out at his cousins' farm in Iowa, playing trombone, and traveling the world. Most of all, Allen loved being with his family, going on vacation to Maui, being constantly active with attending the grandkids' and kids' sports, and knowing the schedules for hockey, lacrosse, softball, baseball, soccer, swimming, cheerleading, Poms, basketball, golf, and volleyball. In addition, Allen, in his own right, collected valuable coins and stamps and read humor books, especially Dave Barry. He loved watching the Broncos and other football, soccer and hockey teams. One of our favorite pastimes involved our Little Parish group, a group of couples who met monthly for the past 40 years, for dinners, activities, and learning of each other's families. We are still very close to these friends today, and look forward to all of our rewards or facing our challenges or just spending time with each other.

Allen faced many years as a warrior of Kidney Failure. Medically, Allen, who never complained once in about 25 years or so, faced Amyloidosis, a protein that attacked his kidneys, Multiple Myeloma, a blood disease, and Kidney Failure with both HEMO Dialysis at a center, and Peritoneal Dialysis at home. He withstood many chemical medicines over a very long period of time. He could not have a transplant of anyone's kidney, as the new kidney would have been attacked in the older system already filled with chronic Amyloid and Multiple Myeloma. Thus, he faced fatigue most of his recent life as a husband and father. He marched onward, bravely and quietly accepting his fate and daily battle. We, in our family, are so proud of Allen's dedication to family, his bravery for facing his eventual terminal fate and his love of daily life and friends. We offer this obituary in tribute to Allen Snyder, a very strong person who lived with ferocity and who loved with all his heart and efforts. We miss and love our Allen so much.
