Allen R. Curry, 79, of Aurora, Colorado, died peacefully at home on July 11, 2026. Born in Atlanta, Georgia on August 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Albert and the late Frances Curry. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy E. Curry, daughter Morgan K. Lyman and son-in-law, Gary Lyman; son, Alexander S. Curry and daughter-in-law, Ashley Curry; four grandchildren, Greyson Lyman, Caera Lyman, Emma Curry, and Savannah Curry. He had a great love of his family and frequently thanked God for that gift. 

He graduated in 1964 from Georgia Military Academy in College Park, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from North Georgia College in 1968, his Master of Education from West Georgia University in 1970, and his Doctor of Education (statistics, psychometrics and educational measurement) from the University of Georgia in 1977. 

A veteran of the United States Army, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1968. His initial assignment was executive officer for a 700- person unit. Later, leveraging his master's degree, he founded a drug counseling center serving an Army post of more than 37,000. He was officer in charge of the Fort Wood pistol team that competed in the Fifth U.S. Army Championships. He attained the rank of Captain in the Armor Branch. 

His professional career focused on teaching and technical writing in many areas, including computer science, mathematics, business, marketing, and medical science. He retired from the University of Colorado Medicine in 2010. His final projects included procedures for cataract surgery and battlefield surgical treatment for compartment syndrome. The latter involves incision of facia in damaged areas of the body to prevent muscle, bone, nerve, and blood vessel impairment or death. 

His teaching career spanned from five-year olds (Sunday School) to graduate students, whom he taught advanced statistical techniques.  He won awards for teaching topics as diverse as supply chain software, respiratory therapist physics, and introductory statistics at the undergraduate level.  He had a great love of teaching and prided himself on producing informative and fun lectures.

Allen enjoyed reading a diversity of issues and subjects, computer "tinkering" and woodworking.  In wood craft he especially enjoyed designing and carving projects using his CNC machine.  Here, he used a computer-controlled milling router to intricately cut, carve, and shape wood, glass, metal and plastic to create a myriad of objects from simple cutouts to complex three-dimensional shapes.

Allen was a Christian, raised in the Presbyterian church.  He endeavored to be a good Christian and was an elder of the Presbyterian Church of the Master, Mission Viejo, CA.  As a youth he lived with his grandparents and routinely went to mid-week worship and singing with them.  Here he always requested that all join in singing "Onward Christian Soldiers;" a song he later thought, the older the parishioners likely became weary of.

The Celebration of Life will be held at Community of Grace Church at 4343 S. Flanders St., Centennial, CO 80015 on Tuesday 28thth at 10:00a.m. with a small reception immediately following.  The graveside service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors.
