Alfred Marion Ickler Jr.

November 28, 1945 — August 2, 2024

Alfred “Al” Marion Ickler Jr., affectionately known to his family as Papa, passed away in his home in Littleton, Colorado on August 2, 2024, of natural causes.

Papa is the beloved father to daughter Erin (Manny) Hays and son Brian (Kara) Ickler. He is the adored grandfather to Elijah, Tanner, Addison, Emery, Maren and Ethan. Brother to Roger (Lisa) Ickler. Uncle to Ed and Lori. He is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Delilia Ickler and his sister Dorothy McPeak.

Al was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan on Nov. 28, 1945, to Alfred Ickler Sr and Delilia (nee White). Al’s family moved to Windsor, Colorado and eventually to Brighton, Colorado where he graduated from High School in 1963. He then enlisted into the U.S. Navy. “IKE” was a Vietnam Veteran aboard the USS Hopewell, serving his country between 1963 and 1969. After the Navy, Al went to Metropolitan State College in Denver where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He met Linda in college, and they married and had Erin and Brian. Al worked for the State of Colorado in the Dept. of Education and Dept of Human Services as a Database Administrator. Even though their marriage ended, Al and Linda stayed friends, and were present in celebrating the births and lives of their grandchildren.

Papa enjoyed bowling and gardening and spent time camping and fishing with his family. Papa was a lifelong fan of the Broncos, Rockies, Nuggets and Avs. He got together regularly with classmates from both Windsor and Brighton High Schools. He has enjoyed reunions with his Navy buddies stateside every other year and has had some great worldly travels to Australia, New Zealand, Caribbean Islands and parts of Europe. Mostly, Papa enjoyed time with his family. He was especially proud of his grandkids and all their successes. He went to their sporting events, theater productions and graduations and they always made him beam with pride. Al also had a great sense of community with the neighbors in his cul-de-sac, where he lived for the last 22 years.

A service with military honors will be held on Friday August 30, 2024, at 1 pm at Ft. Logan National Cemetery. Please arrive at 12:40 to Staging Area C, where we will proceed by car to the pavilion for the ceremony.
