Alfred Litwak, 95, of Wayzata, MN passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026 after a brief illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sally Ann (Hendershot); his son, Jesse; daughter-in-law Amy; and granddaughters Sophie and Anna. Al was the cherished pillar of his family. He cared deeply for his loved ones, looking after them with gentleness, humility, wit, warmth, wisdom, and a strong faith in Jesus Christ.
Al was born to Ukrainian immigrants, Paul and Anastasia Litwak, in Shenandoah, PA on October 25, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and two sisters.
He graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Economics and also earned a master’s degree in Economics from NYU. As an economist, Al worked for Western Electric, programming early generation computers by punch card; he also worked for Chase Manhattan Bank, Mobil Oil and US Economics. He spent over 20 years of his career at Johns Manville where he was Vice President and Chief Economist and also managed the company’s pension investments before retiring in 1994. Al was invited to be a member of the prestigious Conference of Business Economists, a role he held until his death.
Al and Sally met and married in New York City then relocated to Colorado in 1972 to be closer to one of his passions, downhill skiing. Al, Sally and Jesse lived in Littleton, CO and Elizabeth, CO for many years and spent significant time enjoying the slopes in Vail, CO. Aside from skiing, Al collected art during his years living in Manhattan, and enjoyed music and caring for his land in Colorado.
Al was passionate about his country and served as an electrical technician in the Navy during the Korean War. He will be buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery with military honors. He was also deeply invested in education and his local community, and was involved in political campaigns, school board issues, and local service organizations. He was a member of The Shepherd of the Grove Lutheran Church in Maple Grove, MN.
Funeral services will be held at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home in Lakewood, CO on July 7, 2026 at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s memory may be sent to St. Michael’s First Ukrainian Church; 114 South Chestnut St., Shenandoah, PA 17976; (570) 462-0809; stmichaelsfirst.com (Al’s home church and the first Ukrainian Catholic Church in the U.S.)
