On February 10, 2018, our Grand Matriarch, Aleida Wilhelmina Gillies crossed over into eternal life and into the spiritual arms of her late husband, Alexander Gillies. Aleida was the last of her family and was preceded in death by her husband Al, her mother and father and her two sisters. She was a mother to three children, ten grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren. Aleida emigrated from her birthplace of Holland when she was four and spent her youth in New Jersey. Upon completion of nursing school, she enlisted as an Army Nurse during World War II. She spent the remainder of her life dedicated to her nursing career working in all facets of medical care. The job she cherished most was a volunteer nurse at Girl Scout Camp. Many a bump, bruise, and homesick heart were cured by her loving touch. Countless tributes and tender remembrances have poured in since our mothers passing. As we read these we grasp the greatness of her life and how much she contributed to others. She leaves behind a strong loving family groomed by her compassion and deep love. We will miss her beyond our own grief and tears. Graveside Services are pending finalization at Fort Logan National Cemetery in the Summer of 2018. Please share memories and condolences with the family below.
