Alec was born in Clovis, New Mexico on August 18, 1997 to Kimberly Schall and Gregory Newman.
Alec was truly the kindest soul you could meet. Whether you were a family member, friend, or total stranger, he could find a way to brighten your day with a funny joke or fun conversation.
Alec was a student at Liberty High School from 2012-2016. He enjoyed long boarding, ice hockey, and swimming. His sisters, Alyssa and Elly, took up swimming later because of him.
He moved to Denver in 2019 and pursued his Associate of Arts degree from Aurora Community College, finishing in 2025. He especially enjoyed and excelled in Spanish. He worked at Cookies, where he touched lives of his colleagues and customers daily.
In his free time, he enjoyed watching movies - he always had the best TV and movie recommendations. He loved going to ice hockey games his entire life; as a child, he attended Arizona Coyotes games with his grandfather, “Papa” and sisters. In recent years, he attended Avalanche games with his Dad, but when his favorite team, the Buffalo Sabres, came to town, they would cheer for the visiting team. On weekends, he watched Formula One, often calling his sister Courtney during the races to talk about the driver strategy of his favorite driver, Lando Norris. He also loved stand-up comedy. He and his sister Alyssa had the lovely memory of seeing Andrew Santino together, one of Alec’s favorites. On his days off, he spent time on the phone with his Mom, drinking English Breakfast tea together and catching up. Alec loved visiting zoos, especially to see the elephants, which is something he did every time he visited his Mom in Texas.
Last year, Alec and his Dad attended an Indy Car Race, making core memories together. Alec also always talked passionately about his 2023 trip to Germany to visit his sister Courtney and was looking forward to visiting her again this November.
You’d usually find Alec wearing a beanie - even in warm weather – even though it covered up his hair (the most beautiful in the family!). He often wore a jersey or t-shirt of one of the various sports teams he loved - Buffalo Sabres, McLaren, Ferrari, or Kölner Haie. He usually had a lanyard around his neck and a nice watch on his wrist from his Dad. His jerseys, beanies, and watches were some of his prized possessions.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Francis Newman.
Alec is survived by his parents, Kimberly and Gregory, his big sister Courtney, his younger sister Alyssa, his half-sister Elly (or “Little E”, as he always called her), his stepmother, Robyn, and stepsisters Katy and Ana, as well as his best friend and cat, Bean. He is also survived by numerous other family members: cousins, grandmother, aunts and uncles, stepfather Gunter, the family dog Bella, and other animal family members (Boo, Maja & Ruby, and Annie). And by more friends than we know of and could count.
Alec will be deeply missed but forever cherished by the family and friends whose lives he brightened every day. He will be remembered as a gentle, thoughtful, caring, and funny soul.
In honor of Alec, in lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation to Humane Colorado, Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, or Colorado Pet Pantry.
