Alan Eugene Sheley passed away on September 27, 2021, at the age of 81. Alan was born on March 29, 1940, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the third son of Robert Sr and Draga Sheley. Upon graduation from Wyndotte High School, Alan entered into service with the United States Navy. Alan served his country proudly for 4 years but was a lifelong patriot to his country. Upon the conclusion of his military service, he moved to Colorado, where he began a 30-year career with AT&T. It was during his time at AT&T that he met his beloved bride Eva Marie Chleborad, and the two married on October 18, 1969. Al and Eva went on to have 3 sons, Mark, John, and Daniel. Alan was a loving and attentive father to his 3 sons, and a wonderful and adoring husband to Eva. He coached all his son’s numerous baseball teams and won a State Championship with Daniel in 2005.
Alan kept busy playing fastpitch softball, bowling, and golf in his years, as well as keeping close connections with his Wyndotte classmates, Navy shipmates, former AT&T coworkers, and longtime friends. One of Alan's greatest accomplishments came on the golf course, when he recorded a hole in one. Alan loved crossword puzzles and could regularly be found with a pen in his pocket, ready to complete the daily newspaper crossword. If Alan was not completing a crossword, he would be emersed in his books about history, being a lifelong historian, passing along that love of history to his sons and grandsons. Alan was also a member of the American Legion and Navy Tailhook Association. Alan's true pride and joy was his 8 grandchildren of whom he adored.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr and Draga Sheley, brothers Robert Jr and Daniel. He is survived by his beloved bride of 52 years Eva Marie and their sons, Mark, John and Daniel and daughters in law Elisa and Lisa. He is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, D.J., Nicholas, Ethan, Thomas, Ryan, Lauren, James, and Austin. He is also survived by his sister Claudia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alan's name to St. Jude and the American Legion Post 103.
