Adele Joanne Salach

August 21, 1923 — January 29, 2026

Denver

Adele Joanne Salach, nee Czyz, who was born in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago on August 21, 1923, died peacefully in Denver on January 29, 2026, at 102 years of age. Adele was the daughter of August and Mary (Ziemniak) Czyz, both of whom were Polish immigrants to Chicago and who preceded her in death. Adele was the youngest of nine children, and all her siblings also preceded her in death: Josephine (John) Gawenski, Walter Czyz, Stella (Bruno) Kieta, Joseph (Marian) Finch, William (Irene) Czyz, John (Martha) Czyz, Bruno Czyz, and Emily (Stanley) Piech.

In 1948, Adele married Frank Salach, who was from Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood and whom Adele had known since childhood. Adele and Frank were members of St. Salomea Church and lived in Roseland for many years before moving to Oak Lawn, Illinois, where Frank passed away in 1993. Adele is survived by daughters Christine (Roger) Whitacre of Denver and Charlene “Cherie” (Randy) Bartlett of Novi, Michigan. Adele is also survived by five grandchildren: Emily (Joseph) Daniels, William “Bill” (Sarah) Whitacre, Nathan (Claire) Bartlett, Joseph “Pete” Bartlett, and Thomas Bartlett; and five great-grandchildren: Georgia Daniels, Charles Daniels, Wilhelmina “Willa” Daniels, August “Gus” Daniels, and Cassandra Bartlett. Adele was a beloved member of a close-knit and large extended family, including numerous nephews and nieces with whom she remained close. Her many friends include those she met at Sunrise Senior Living in Denver, where she lived during the last two years of her life.

Adele was a graduate of St. Salomea Elementary School, Fenger High School and Fox Business College in Chicago. She worked as a secretary for National City Lines in Chicago before becoming a full-time homemaker. In her later years, Adele moved to be near her daughters in Colorado and Michigan but always remained a life-long Chicagoan at heart. As the last link to her family’s early history in Chicago, and with over 100 years of memories, Adele enjoyed spending time and sharing stories with old friends and family, who were her greatest priority.

The funeral will be held on February 10, 2026, at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 1901 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, Colorado.
