Vera Catherine Thompson, born December 25, 1929 in Denver, CO, passed away October 19, 2021 in Englewood, CO. She is survived by her sons Joe (Mary) and Jerry (Christina) Ruhland, grandchildren Melissa, Matthew and Jack, great-grandson Gray, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Jim Ruhland and husband Jim Thompson.
Vera worked for Mountain Bell from 1955 to 1983. She took an early retirement after the phone company split and then enjoyed traveling with husband Jim when his job took him out of town, staying at their farm in Center, CO after he retired, taking riverboat cruises on the Mississippi, and visiting son Jerry in Alaska and London. Always happy to serve, she sewed Hug-a-Bears for Mountain Bell Pioneers as a lifetime member of the Blue Spruce/Legacy West chapter and served as a long-time member of the Altar and Rosary Society at St. Francis de Sales parish. She loved watching sports on TV, knitting and crocheting sweaters and afghans for family and friends as she sat watching the Broncos or the Rockies. She was a proficient gardener and canner, especially of pickles and her famous chili sauce, which she loved to share.
Her sweet, giving and generous nature made her a favorite wherever she went, and that is how her family hopes she will be remembered.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4 at All Souls Catholic Church, 4950 S Logan St. Englewood, CO 80113.
