Madlene Montoya

April 2, 1948 — November 23, 2021

Longtime Arvada resident Madlene Montoya died November 23rd, 2021 at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, Colorado.

Nena was Lucky #13 of 15 children born to proud parents Juan and Vicentita Montoya.  Nena was born on April 2nd, 1948.  Like many of her siblings she was born at home in Mesita, Colorado.  Nena grew up in San Acacio, CO and once she graduated high school she left for the big city of Denver, CO.  Shortly after that Nena moved to New Jersey to live with her sister Kookie and brother in-law Pat Bradley.  Nena enjoyed helping with Emily and Daniel (Kookie and Pat’s kids) while she was attending Cumberland County College for her nursing degree.  When she graduated she worked in the burn center at St Agnes in Philadelphia.  It was at this time that she met the love of her life and the jokester James “Jim” White.  They moved back to Colorado in 1981 and they married on June 26th, 1982 in Arvada, Colorado.  Jim and Nena have shared over 40 years together and they were truly made for each other.  Jim often say’s that Nena saved him with her love.

Nena continued her nursing career in Colorado and retired from Exempla Colorado Lutheran Home Senior Center in March of 2014 after 15 years of service.

Always the Nurse, caregiver and the one to be upfront and honest with you about everything.  Nena never pulled any punches you knew exactly what she wanted you to know.  Her amazing gift to listen and then give you advice was one of a kind.  It should be no surprise to anyone that in her final act on this earth was to be a donor.

As she did all her life in caring for her family, friends and patients; in her death she gave hope in life and in donation she will help cancer patients, burn patients, athletes with tendon injuries and last but not least women who had breast cancer and are in need of reconstructive surgery will be helped with Nena’s donation.

That is who our Beloved Nena was and always will be to all those who had the privilege to be loved and cared for by her.

Nena is survived by her loving husband Jim White.  Her Siblings Gloria Maes of Fort Garland, CO, Priscilla (Pat) Bradley of Athens, NY, Donald Montoya of Pueblo, CO, Inez Gonzales (Raul Minchaca) of Fort Garland, CO, Anthony “Tony” (Barbara) Montoya of Rio Rancho, NM; Gloria Montoya of Pueblo West, CO, Beverly Montoya of Santa Fe, NM and Orlinda Montoya of Fort Garland; her in-laws Nancy (Vinny) Cifaldi of Harleysville, PA as well as numerous  nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Although they had no children of their own, they treated their nieces and nephews like their own.

Nena is preceded in death by her parents Juan and Vicentita, her siblings Ignacita Montoya Rael, Estrelia Montoya, Adelina Montoya Segura, Orlando Montoya, Larry Montoya, Alfredo Serafin (Fred) Montoya, Gilbert Montoya, Amadeo Pedro “Pete” Montoya and Joe Montoya.
