George Over

June 12, 1941 — May 19, 2022

Arvada

Loving father, husband, brother and grandfather, George Ellis Over, passed away in the early hours of May 19th. He was surrounded by, and took communion with, his loving wife and children the day before.

George Ellis, was born to Harold and Ruth Over on June 12, 1941 in Roaring Spring, PA. While in school, he first realized his passion for music, especially singing. A member of the Church of the Brethren from a very young age, and then active in the Presbyterian Church, he participated in and directed church choir, community chorales and men’s quartets throughout his life. He also played string bass with Bluegrass groups and enjoyed participating in Tuba Christmas.

After attending Juniata College for a year, he joined the Air Force in 1960, where he played Tuba in the Military Band. While stationed at Mather AFB, he met the love of his life, Betty, in church choir. They married on December 9, 1962, then moved to Lowry AFB in Aurora, CO where son John was born.

In 1965, they relocated to PA, and daughter Karen and son Bruce were born in Norristown. The family moved back to the Denver metro area in 1972, then on to Cypress, CA in 1984. George retired from Nissan Motor Corp and moved back to Arvada, CO in June 1997.

He was an avid 4Wheeler who enjoyed exploring the roads less traveled and sharing them with friends and family. Favorite trails were around Empire, CO, Moab, UT and Anza Borrego, CA.

Now that George has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remind ourselves that while this is the end of his physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for him.

George Ellis joins his father Harold and mother Ruth in Heaven. He is survived by many loving family members, including wife Betty, sister Marian Grassmyer, brother Ray Over (Judy), son John (Leslie), daughter Karen Cook (Ron), son Bruce (Tanya) and grandchildren Emily, Melissa, Jared, Kimberly, Elise, and Amber.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, in Arvada, CO on June 11 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be directed to Habitat for Humanity.
