Eileen O'Dowd

January 23, 1940 — May 16, 2022

Lakewood

Eileen M. O’Dowd, 82 years young, of Lakewood, Colorado, died peacefully at home on May 16, 2022.  She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing which was a comfort for all.

Eileen was born and raised in the Bronx, New York.  At the age of 14 she met the love of her life Martin C. O’Dowd.  It was love at first sight.  The two dated through high school and married on December 8, 1957 which was also Martin’s birthday.  Best birthday gift ever!  Marty and Eileen made their home in Denver, Colorado shortly after their wedding.

While her children were young, Eileen stayed at home and dedicated her life to raising her children in a home filled with love, laughter, and support.  As her children grew, she became a teacher’s aide at the elementary school and volunteered for countless school, church, and Girl Scouts activities that her children were involved in.  She then became a Real Estate Agent and eventually a Real Estate Broker.  Along with her husband they opened a real estate office and served many throughout the Denver community.  She then took a few classes at Red Rocks Community College (RRCC), to develop her computer skills.  Her enjoyment for the field led her to complete her degree in Computer Information and eventually began teaching at RRCC.  She was an active member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church for most of her adult life.  She and Martin loved to travel and were fortunate to see much of the world.  Above all, Eileen greatest delight was her family.  She adored Martin and supported and encouraged her children to strive for happiness and success.  To know her was to truly love her.

Together she and her husband had six children: Donna O’Dowd-Robb (Bruce) of Montrose, CO, Wendy DeYoung of Fort Collins, CO, Michelle Hoza (Brian) of Hayden, CO, Dan O’Dowd (Ginger) of Lindsborg KS, Sandie Othmani (Farhat) Southaven MS, and Michael O’Dowd (Lisa) of Henderson, NV.  She had 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Conroy and Gabrielle Vecchiollo, a brother, a sister, and her dear, loving husband Martin.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Dumb Friends League and Denver Hospice Center.
