Clyde Thompson

August 27, 1930 — May 13, 2022

Clyde Everett Thompson Jr, 91, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2022 at his home in Greenwood Village, CO surrounded by his sons. He was born on August 24, 1930, in Iola, KS, at his family’s home, 412 East Street, to Clyde Everett Thompson Sr and Lucy Wilson Thompson.  He was the youngest of five children.

Clyde grew up in Iola, KS. He graduated Valedictorian and Senior Class President from Iola High School in 1948.  After high school, he attended college at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. He received a B.S. in Finance and was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma business honors society. He served in R.O.T.C. and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  “Arrested by the Lawrence City police for running a stop sign along with Nan Mosby, Bob Lacey and his date.  Paid $15 to avoid night in jail.  Lacy raised the money in the Phi Delt house while I remained in custody.  Police were probably out of their jurisdiction.  No appeal”.  He also drove his car up and down the steps of Strong Hall following KU’s 1952 National Basketball Championship victory.

After College, in 1952, he married Nan Mosby at Christ Church Cranbrook, in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  Soon thereafter he served in Korea for the United States Air Force as a Second Lieutenant.  Clyde and Nan were happily married for 65 years.  Following honorable discharge from the Air Force he went to work for Magnolia Petroleum Company which merged into Mobil Oil.  While working as a Landman for Mobil Oil, Clyde obtained his LLB degree from Oklahoma City University where he graduated first in his class in 1961.  He passed the Bar exam in four states (OK, KS, WY, and CO) and practiced in the legal department of Mobil Oil in the Denver, CO office.  He left Mobil in 1965 and with Jim Horrigan established Horrigan and Thompson, Attorneys at Law.  Upon leaving Horrigan and Thompson, he founded and operated Mountain Petroleum Ltd and Thompson Gas Corp.

He was an golfer, fisherman, skier, and crossword puzzle enthusiast.  Clyde and Nan enjoyed their close friends and Pot Luck group for over 30 years.  They enjoyed spending time in Keystone, CO and Carefree, Arizona.  They both made a number of domestic and overseas trips with lifelong friends Bob and Jane Lacy, Aubrey and Nancy Linville, and Larry and Charlotte Barrett.  He was very dedicated to his loving wife, three sons, their wives, his seven grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Clyde was preceded in death by his spouse Nan Mosby Thompson, his parents Clyde E. Thompson Sr, Lucy Wilson Thompson, and siblings June Thompson Toland, Frank Wilson Thompson, Charlotte Thompson Ford.  His nephews Richard Brand Thompson, John Robert Toland, and Frank (Bucky) Wilson Thompson Jr.

Clyde is survived by his sister, Lucy Lee Thompson McDowell, 100, living in Prairie Village Kansas. He is also survived by his sons, Mark Robert (Barb) Thompson of Kansas City, MO; Scott Michael (Pat) Thompson of Red Feather Lakes, CO, and Todd Mosby (Mary) Thompson of Colorado Springs, CO; his grandchildren; Richard James Thompson, Alyssa Eileen Thompson, Matthew James Thompson, Molly Elizabeth Platenak, Mark Carter Thompson, Luke Everett Thompson and Joshua Scott Thompson: his great-grandchildren, Robyn Charlotte Thompson, Ophelia Ruth Thompson, Juniper Anne Platenak, and Cole Everett Platenak, his nieces and nephews; Josh Robert Mosby, Kathleen Helen Thompson, Clyde William Toland, and Aimee McDowell Scovell.
