William (Bill) Meade McMechen, Jr., passed away peacefully, joining Christ on December 11, 2017. Bill was born October 1927, in Denver to William and Mary Katherine McMechen. He was a graduate of North High School and then, following a short stint in the U.S. Marines, attended the University of Colorado where he earned his degree in Civil and Structural Engineering.

As a young man, Bill traveled the not-so-groomed back roads of Colorado and neighboring states surveying these beautiful lands for the USGS. Bill would tell you “I travelled each and every highway.” It was on one such trip where Bill met Alice whom he married in 1954. Bill and Alice ultimately settled in Englewood, which was their home for more than 60 years. During his career, he worked for several local engineering firms designing numerous industrial structures. Bill’s ongoing love of the outdoors was reflected in the uncountable hours spent outside working in his garden, in the yard, and on the house.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alice, and was the loving father of three children, William (Denver), Renee (Centennial), and Angus (Castle Rock). Bill has one granddaughter, Audrey (Atlanta). Preceded in death by his brother, Edgar (Bud), Bill also has two sisters Phyllis (Denver) and Mary Kay (Tucson).

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec 15, 9:30 am at Littleton Cemetery, 6155 South Prince Street, Littleton, Colorado, 80120. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.

Please share memories of Bill and condolences for his family in the guestbook below.
