Obituary

Don Stengel passed away on June 13, 2017. He was born on August 3, 1960 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Ortiz & Lavonne Stengel. Don is survived by his loving family, Wife, Patti; children Candace, Lee, Jennifer, Deidre, & Casey; Grandchildren, Mercedes, Ciara, Clinton, Connor, Taylor, Spy, Mason, Lucca & Easton; siblings, Gerry Stengel (Karen), Wayne Stengel (Deanie), Jeff Stengel (Candi), Jim Stengel (Mary); many nieces & nephews; and of course his beloved dogs Sonny, Cleo, Molly, Charlie, Mattie, Georgie & Holly. He was preceded in death by his sister Karen Maes (Robert).

Don graduated from Highland High School and continued his education at Kansas Newman University & Wichita State University. Don continued on to a successful career as a supervisor and trainer with SkyWest Airlines & Piedmont/US Airways and was a proud member of several organizations including CCUA, CHSBUA, CHSAA, CFOA, & NCHSAA.

Don had many achievements in life, he played for Single A Farm Teams, the Oakland A's & the New York Yankees, was an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves & Kansas City Royals, was a head baseball coach for Golden High School & South High School. He was awarded Joe Rossi Hall of Fame in 2014 by CHSBUA, and awarded Hall of Fame in 2014 by CFOA.

Don was passionate about sports with his most favorites being baseball, football and golf.  As an insider, we would catch him watching Price Is Right, Two & A Half Men & The Big Bang Theory.  Don met friends everywhere along his way and describe him as Loyal, Encouraging, Inspiring and Dependable; not to mention his willingness to mentor so many. He still kept in touch with his childhood friends, a few that he refers to as brothers.  Don's family was by far his most precious gift in life.  He worked hard, protected those he loved and treated everyone with respect. He had a zest for life, a laugh that just made you smile. Don had the best personality and an unbelievable sense of humor.

In recent years, Don courageously battled ALS. He was an avid researcher of any treatments to slow the progression of this disease.  Don made many friends in the ALS community and always hoped a cure would be found to save all those afflicted. If you wish to make a charitable donation, in honor of Don, please send that to the ALS Association Rocky Mountain Chapter at www.alscolorado.org
