Obituary

Ann Louise Hirsch Dowler of Denver died on April 8th, 2017. She was born October 30, 1934 in Chicago, to Dr. Donald Hirsch and Eunice Stahl. She was their only child and was lovingly doted on by her parents as well as her mother's sisters Ruth and Myrtle. Ruth and Myrtle played a significant role in her upbringing and Ann cherished many fond memories of time spent with her aunts.

Ann graduated from Senn High School in Chicago and moved to Colorado to attend CU Boulder. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega chapter at CU and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1956. She married Rolland Dowler in 1954 and apprehensively moved to Anchorage AK soon after so Rollie could foster his pharmacy career. Ann grew to love the outdoors of Alaska and her first two sons Brad and Mark were born there. Later they moved back to Colorado and settled in Denver where children Gary and Lisa were born. They moved to Aspen Colorado in 1967 and a love of the mountains and outdoors became firmly implanted in her. Ann remained in Colorado for the rest of her life.

She was a woman of perpetual motion whose interests included tennis, hiking, backpacking and camping, attending the symphony and opera, and playing bridge. After retiring from 20 years of an accounting career she began to travel throughout the world with many dear friends. When she wasn't traveling, she enjoyed volunteer work for the Assistance League of Denver and the Denver Art Museum.

Ann is survived by her son Gary, daughter Lisa, grandson Luka Netzel, and step-sister Betsy (Roy) Cardoso. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sons, Brad and Mark. She was loved and will be greatly missed.

Memorial donations can be made in her memory to one of her favorite charities, the Denver Dumb Friends League, where she met and adopted some of her most faithful companions.
