Obituary

Lucy Miera, age 73, originally of Denver, CO, passed into eternal life on March 3, 2017.
Lucy Perez Miera was born on June 4th, 1943 in Denver, Colorado and she finished her journey here on earth on March 3, 2017. Lucy has re-united with her parents, Jesus and Maria Perez, her sisters, Mary Garcia, Cruz Morales, and Lulu Morales, her brothers, Joe and Paul Perez, and her daughter, Janet Castaneda, in their heavenly home. Lucy leaves behind her husband, Chris, her two daughters, Melissa and Danette, a step-daughter, Maria and her husband, Jody, 12 grandchildren, four great grand children, seven sisters-in law, five brothers-in law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lucy was a wife, a mom, a sister, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, a sister-in-law, and a friend to many. She will be missed. Lucy was one in a million. She had a heart of gold, she was a generous soul, and she lived a life that included the good Lord, her husband, and her family.

Lucy was a kind, generous, humble, and quiet person. She enjoyed family functions. She loved partying with family and friends, but seldom expressed words or emotions about anything or anyone. She just observed and listened. When Lucy and I talked, Lucy listened. She didn't say much, but every now and then she would say "yeah, huh". Yea, huh was her way of saying that she agreed and that she was engaged in the conversation.

Besides her family and friends, Lucy loved 3 things – shopping, dancing, and getting her nails manicured and polished. I don't believe there is a person in this room who can match Lucy's shopping sprees. Lucy didn't drive, so she frequently took public transportation to get to the malls. Once she got to Macy's, there was no stopping her. She would buy outfits to match – hats, sunglasses, dresses, blouses, sweaters, pants, shoes, designer purses, coats or jackets, and the list goes on. She then proceeded to get her nails done at a shop that must have been 10 miles from her home. Again, she used public transportation to get her there. After all this, Lucy was ready to go wherever her plans took her. Style and class defined Lucy.

No one will ever know how long Lucy suffered with the illness that took her life because she never complained about pain or sickness. However, I was fortunate to be with her when she passed and I heard the joy and happiness in her voice in the last moments of her life. I visited her in the hospital on Sunday and noticed that her spirits were high and that she was at peace with her life and family. I visited her again on Thursday night after checking on my brother, Chris, who also was hospitalized that night. Lucy asked about Chris, but she was calm and not worried about him. Lucy was a woman of strong faith; she probably already knew that Chris was going to be okay. We chatted about a few things, including the possibility of going to New York. The doctors then entered the room to check on Lucy and we laughed as we ended our conversation. Ten minutes later, her heart stopped beating and she went to her heavenly home. We have lost her physical presence, but we have gained a guardian angel in heaven.

May Lucy's soul and the souls of the departed rest in peace.

Lucy is survived by husband Medardo "Chris" Miera; daughters Danette Lucero (Miguel Vargas) Melissa Lopez, the late Janet Castaneda and Maria Medrano (Jesus Medrano); siblings Angie Martinez, Ruth Santisteven, Erma Zamora, Marilyn Montoya, Florencio Miera, Mary Miera, and Phillip Miera; 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
