Obituary

Paul Marion Goreski passed away peacefully on Monday February 20, 2017 in Denver, CO. Born March 26, 1919 on a farm in Mead CO. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Virginia I. Goreski (Hart), parents Peter J. & Louise L. Goreski (Koretko), uncle George Koretko and brother Laurence Marion Goreski. Survived by son John A. Goreski (wife Laura) of Berthoud, daughter Jane E. Goreski of Estes Park, granddaughter Zoe D. Goreski of Fort Collins, niece Laura Jean Anderson (Goreski) of Greer SC, and cousin Paul E. Koretko of Knoxville, TN.
The family moved to Denver's Globeville neighborhood and eventually settled in the Berkley area where he spent the rest of his life. Paul learned the game of golf as a young man and caddied at various local courses including the 1938 US Open at Cherry Hills. In the summer he worked in Estes Park caddying at the golf course and taking tourists fly fishing; golf and fly fishing were passions his whole life often enjoyed with his family. Graduated North High 1937, worked for Gates Rubber before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1941, retiring as an Air Force Technical Sargent in 1961. During WW II he was stationed in Puerto Rico and assigned to the newly formed 40th Bomb Group from there to Panama and on to the Pacific island of Saipan as an engine crew chief servicing B-29 bombers attached to the 497th Bomb Group, 73rd Wing, 45th Squadron. After the war he was stationed at Lowry AFB in the 7625 Operations Squadron, married Virginia, and the young family enjoyed living at 48th & Newton. Was happy playing golf at Willis Case with friends and hunting for golf balls there later in retirement. Worked with other volunteers to restore B-29 TD-54 at the Lowry Heritage Museum now Wings over the Rockies.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Mount Saint Vincent Home, 4159 Lowell Blvd., Denver, Colorado 80211. The Rosary will be Saturday, March 4th, 10AM, followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30, Holy Family Catholic Church, 4377 Utica Street. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.
