Fredrick R. Hanson, 96, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Arvada, Colorado. He was born in Boulder, Colorado on September 8, 1920 to Louis Olaf Hanson and Anna Fagerstedt. Son of a Dairy Farmer, Fred grew up knowing what it was to work hard and almost never stopped working. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1939. He then left the farm and joined the United States Marine Corps where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. He served in World War II in Zamboanga, Philippines and in Honolulu, Hawaii. While a Marine, Fred would make his way to San Diego where he met his love of his life Alice E. Crum. Fred and Alice were married on December 8, 1945. Fred and Alice then moved to Washington D.C. where Fred helped Marines discharge from the Marine Corps. While in Washington D.C., they had their first of five children, Carl A. Hanson. Eventually they would move back to Colorado where daughter Sharon, and sons Steve, Bruce and Brian were born. Fred went to University of Colorado and received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Education in 1952. While at CU, Fred was a championship light heavyweight wrestling champion. In 1952, Fred was hired by Adams County School District #14 and served as a Middle School Science Teacher and coached various sports. Fred received his Masters Degree in Elementary Education in 1957 and was offered the position of Principal of Oneida Elementary School in Commerce City, Colorado. He served as principal for 29 years and retired in 1985. In 1986, the school that he worked at for so long gave him one of the greatest honors possible- the honor of naming the school after him-Fredrick R. Hanson Elementary.

After retirement, Fred and Alice enjoyed traveling the world and going on bus trips around the United States. Fred was a fine carpenter and enjoyed spending their summers at their house in Silver Cliff, Colorado. Fred and Alice were married for 71 years. Fred was a wonderful man who loved his family and loved his God. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Westminster, Colorado. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
