Obituary

Frances Eleanor Kerney Grosshans, age 90, of Denver, passed away gently on December 30, 2016, at Morning Star at Dayton Place. Fran was born May 2, 1926, in Newcastle, Wyoming, to O.C. and Ruby Kerney. Fran is survived by her nieces, Judy Fredericksen, Kim Fredericksen, Karen Fredericksen, Julie Fredericksen, and Jill Fredericksen; her nephews, Tim Greene and Douglas (Irit) Potter; her daughter Kaye; her son-in-law, William; her grandchildren, Aidan and Cara; her great-nephew, Kevin Paul Bailey; and Kevin's father, Jim Bailey. Fran was preceded in death by her parents O.C. and Ruby Kerney; her sister, Katherine Kerney Greene; her nephew, Aaron Kent Bailey; and Judy's husband, Jack Fredericksen.

Growing up in the Black Hills area Fran and her Father made many visits to Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower. It was a ritual to walk around the entire distance of the Tower. As a result, she was an avid walker for the rest of her life. Fran obtained her bachelor's degree from Doane College in 1947 and worked for various companies as a bookkeeper. Her final job was at Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, as a Secretary, where she made many dear friends who will miss her greatly. Outside of work she attended plays, symphonies, chamber groups, joined a book club and biked. Her love of cats was undoubtedly a highlight in her life, and she welcomed the neighborhood cats to come visit. She loved working in her yard and enjoyed having friends over to enjoy it with her. A favorite pastime was listening and dancing to music from the 30's and 40's. Favorite groups In the Denver area were "The Hot Tomatoes" and "A Pair of Jacks." She looked forward to weekly drives to City Park to find her favorite goose "Harold."
