Timothy "Tim" Lee O'Neil died peacefully at the Denver Hospice in Denver, Colorado on September 8, 2016 at the age of 44.
Tim is survived by his parents, Leo and Penny O'Neil of Aurora Colorado, his sisters: Jennifer Lynn O'Neil and Susan Marie Gilbert of Broomfield and nephews, Douglas Flewelling, Joseph Gwalla, and James Nuako, and niece, Cecelia Flewelling. He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Kenneth and Alberta Pinkstaff of Wichita, Kansas and Frederick and Mae O'Neil of Rudyard, Montana.
Tim was born on January 25, 1972 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Sheldon High School, Sheldon, Iowa in 1990. Tim loved to travel with friends and taste different cultures. He was intrigued about the history of localities, especially about the Lowry neighborhood and loved the lore of Denver's buildings and architecture. He was a politician at heart, going to lengths to understand current issues and lawmaking. Tim was a lifetime cook, experimenting with new recipes and foods. But most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.
Tim worked in the hotel-restaurant industry in his early years. He studied at the University of Las Vegas and worked for the Marriott. In later years, he, working side-by-side with his dad, created a thriving siding and windows business.
We will all remember Tim's gift, his attitude and courage, as he faced many complicated adversities in his life. Tim was a 24-year survivor of AIDS and worked through a lifetime of challenges to stay healthy. Through his perseverance and excellent care of his medical team, Tim was able finally to see that his AIDS pronounced undetectable in the spring of 2016. When he was challenged by alcoholism, he found the strength to and resilience to overcome it. When he faced two bouts of cancer, he was characterized most often by his positive attitude by those who cared for him. Tim fought hard, and he remained grateful for each day.
Tim was loved, he will be missed, and he will be remembered from this day forward.
