John Leyden was born on March 10, 1931 to Frank Xavier Leyden and Flora Hutzler Leyden in New York, NY. At the time of his birth, his parents were studying art at the Art Student's League. Frank, Flora, and John then lived in France from 1931 to 1933 before returning to the US and settling in Denver near Frank's family. In 1936, his sister Linda, who he adored, was born and the family was complete.
John lived in Denver for the rest of his life with two exceptions: From 1951 to 1953 John served with the United States Air Force in Germany and France where he spent his time climbing telephone poles "like a monkey" and stringing telephone wire all across both countries. From 1961 to 1963 John lived in New York City where, following in the footsteps of his parents, he studied at the Art Student's League. He happened to be working at Tiffany's New York during the filming of Breakfast at Tiffany's.
John attended Cathedral High School and graduated in 1949. He then attended Denver University for a year before deciding to join the workforce. He worked his entire career as an Administrator in different capacities for the US Government. During his tenure, he worked at 38th and York, then in Hanger No. 2 and the Air Force Finance Center at Lowry Air Force Base. He retired in 1993.
In 1965, through his sister Linda, John met Margaret Curran of Manchester England at an engagement party in Denver. John and Margaret married in 1970. Their eldest son John was born that same year. Youngest, Frank, was born in 1973.
John was a husband, father, son, and brother first; An artist and inventor second. He was a gentle and generous man to all who knew him.
He passed away peacefully on June 22, 2016. He is and will be missed immensely.
He is survived by his wife Margaret and two sons, John and Frank.
