Obituary

Marcia (Marcie) Gold O'Brien died peacefully on June 16, 2016 after a courageous eight and a half year battle with cancer. Marcie was predeceased by her parents, Marc and Mary Ellen Gold, and is survived by her father's sister, Susanne Gold, by her Dunkelberger cousins Dawn and Keith, Marge and Sattar, Norman, Brad, Michael and Joseph, Erin and Greg, Natalie and Nathan, Javed and Adam, Elise and Riley, and Elizabeth and by her many friends in Colorado and elsewhere.

Marcie was born in Berkeley, California on August 15, 1954 and grew up in San Luis Obispo, California. She attended Occidental College in Los Angeles and obtained her J.D. at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. Marcie worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. for one year immediately following law school. Following a few years at the City Attorney's Office of the City of Aurora, her practice focused primarily on elder law. Marcie was a founding partner of Glatstein & O'Brien P.C. in Denver, Colorado and served professional fiduciaries and estate planning clients there until her retirement in 2010. Marcie also served for many years as a member of the City of Englewood Board of Adjustment and Appeals and as a substitute municipal judge.

Marcie enjoyed a number of passions and interests. She loved performance driving in her BMW, a long line of Great Pyrenees from Grace to Lucy, fantasy football and the real Denver Broncos, a Patron Silver margarita, Pismo beach, blackjack and craps, independence, the quest for the perfect tan, reading a good book, living on her own terms, her friends and their children, the ever-changing political landscape and a really good argument.

Possessing unbounded curiosity, extraordinary generosity, and a tremendous capacity for love, Marcie was equally at home engaging her friends, relaxing with her dog, or flying around the track.

A special thanks to Michaela Mares, who made Marcie's spirited and independent life possible for the last eight years.

A private celebration of life will be held later in the summer. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts in Marcie's memory may be made to Pyrescue in Peyton, Colorado, www.pyrescue.org; Maxfund Animal Adoption Center, in Denver, Colorado, www.maxfund.org; or the Dianne O'Connor Thompson Breast Center at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, www.giving.cu.edu/fund/breast-cancer-research, including the Center's Patience Assistance Fund with a check made payable to UCH Foundation PAF Breast Account 22076 and mailed to 1635 Aurora Court, Campus Box F724, Aurora, Colorado 80045.
